Match all eight rune pairs
Flip two cards at a time. If the runes match, they stay revealed. Clear the whole board in as few moves as you can — your best move count is saved on this device. Cards are real buttons, so you can play with a mouse, touch, or keyboard.

How to play Memory Match Chronicles
Quick start
- Press any card to flip it — the timer starts on your very first flip.
- Flip a second card. A matching pair stays face up and locks in place.
- A mismatched pair flips back after 0.7 seconds. Use that moment to memorise it.
- Clear all eight pairs. Your best score is the fewest moves you have ever needed.
How it works
Controls
- Mouse or trackpad
- Click a card to flip it. There is nothing to drag.
- Touch
- Tap a card to flip it. The cards are full-size buttons, so no precise aiming is needed.
- Keyboard
- Every card is a button. Tab moves between cards, and Enter or Space flips the focused card. Matches are announced through a live region as you make them.
Tips
- The board is 16 cards in a 4×4 layout with eight rune pairs. There are only eight symbols to track, so name them to yourself as you go.
- Your best score counts moves, not seconds. A move is only counted when you flip a second card, so a slow, careful game can still set a record.
- Restarting mid-flip is safe. If you press Restart while two mismatched cards are still showing, the new board deals cleanly and nothing carries over.
- The clock starts on your first flip, not when the page loads. Read the board layout before you touch anything.
Frequently asked questions
How many pairs are there?
There are eight rune pairs, dealt as sixteen cards. The eight symbols are drawn from the Elder Futhark runes.
What counts as a move?
A move is counted when you flip your second card. Flipping the first card of a turn does not add to your move count.
Is the best score the fastest time or the fewest moves?
The fewest moves. Time is displayed while you play so you can watch your pace, but only your lowest move count is saved as your best.
How long do mismatched cards stay visible?
Mismatched cards stay face up for 0.7 seconds before flipping back. Input is locked during that pause so you cannot flip a third card by accident.
Does the timer start when the page loads?
No. The timer starts the moment you flip your first card, so you can study the board for as long as you like beforehand.
Can I play this without a mouse?
Yes. Each card is a real button, so you can Tab between cards and press Enter or Space to flip the one that has focus.
Where is my best score stored?
In your own browser, under a local storage key beginning with stw_. It never leaves your device and it is not linked to any account.
What happens if I restart while cards are flipping back?
The new board deals immediately and the pending flip-back is discarded. Nothing from the previous game affects the new one.
